The Carolina Hurricanes, based out of Raleigh, North Carolina, settled there in 1997 after a previous life as the New England Whalers from 1972-1979, and then the Hartford (Connecticut) Whalers from 1979-1997. The Canes have three division championships, two conference championships, and one Stanley Cup victory, in 2006.
