Guam offers an amazing mix of rich history, a beautiful environment, and diverse cultures, making it a tantalizing place to relocate and start a new life with all the members of your family, even those who are furry and four-legged. Let’s take a look at the steps you need to take if you plan to move with your beloved pet to the island of Guam.

Apply for An Entry Permit
In order to obtain a permit for entry for your pets, you are required to submit an application along with a payment of $60 per animal permit along with $5 per pet license per licensed year. This fee cannot be made in cash, but a check or money order can be made to the “Treasurer of Guam.” If you aren’t available, a representative can apply in your stead as long as he or she has a letter of authorization.
If your pets are young, you may have to wait until they’ve grown. Puppies and kittens have to be at least nine weeks old to gain an entry permit. Dogs and cats that produce a litter during quarantine may cause further fees from the quarantine facility, and the little ones will have to stay with their mother during the quarantine period.
Obtain Proof of Vaccinations
Thanks to strict vaccination rules, Guam has remained rabies-free since 1972. In order to maintain that, your pets must be vaccinated for rabies and other diseases prior to your move to Guam.
Acquire An Affidavit for Export
If you’re coming from an area that has been designated rabies-free, submit a certificate of origin or affidavit of export. The latter shows that your pet wasn’t outside the rabies-free area in the last four months. The affidavit also certifies that your canine or feline friend hasn’t been vaccinated with a live rabies virus vaccine. You can receive these affidavits from a government entity, like a veterinarian from the U.S. Army or Department of Agriculture.
Make a Reservation at An Approved Quarantine Facility
If your pet must be quarantined, your entry permit packet must include confirmed reservations at a quarantine facility approved by the Guam government. It’s your responsibility to find and contact a facility for rates and reservations. The two most popular are Andersen Pet Lodge and Harper Veterinary Hospital.
Obtain a Health Certificate
No more than ten days before your pet’s arrival, you need a health certificate featuring the signature, name, address, and phone number of a qualified veterinarian. The certificate must be written in English, and while you can have a photocopy for processing, the original document needs to go with your pet.
